Welcome to Quilpie, a friendly little outback town where Aussie heritage and adventure come together. We get our name from Quilpeta, the Bush Stone Curlew, as called by the traditional owners of this land. We’re famous for our world-renowned Boulder Opals, and our town has a rich history dating back to 1917, when it grew alongside the Western railway. Early settlers like the Tullys, Duracks, and Costellos shaped our story, and you can discover more of it at the Quilpie Shire Museum. Come for the opals, explore our outback stations, soak in the rugged landscapes, and stick around for the stories. And be sure to catch the full Quilpie story – the Quilpeta Night Show, on the big screen under the stars at the Visitor Information Centre!
